MarketSpark has earned FDNY approval for its fire alarm POTS replacement solution, receiving a Conditional Letter of Acceptance from the FDNY Bureau of Fire Prevention that recognizes MarketSpark as a Managed Facilities Voice Network (MFVN) under 2016 NFPA 72. The approval (Record ID 2025-TMFRCD-007414-VRNC) clears the way for MarketSpark’s equipment to transmit fire alarm signals to central stations across New York City.

The designation matters because copper POTS lines, the backbone of fire alarm communication for decades, are being retired by carriers nationwide and NYC building owners are under increasing pressure to modernize before service is discontinued. FDNY’s MFVN approval process is rigorous by design; it confirms that a provider’s equipment meets strict standards for dial plan and signal equivalence, pathway reliability, and installation safeguards against unauthorized access, among other requirements.

MarketSpark’s solution is built for the redundancy NYC’s fire code demands. Every unit ships with dual cellular SIMs and connects across multiple carriers, including Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T, so a single carrier outage doesn’t take a building’s fire alarm signaling offline. Ethernet-based connectivity is available as an additional pathway on top of cellular, giving building owners further redundancy where it’s needed. Reconfiguration of approved devices is restricted to MarketSpark and its certified vendors, and equipment is tested against the latest NFPA 72 acceptance testing requirements adopted by the City.

For the buildings MarketSpark already serves, this approval means fire alarm lines can move off legacy copper without sacrificing compliance or reliability. It’s one more step toward MarketSpark’s broader mission: keeping the systems that can’t go down, running.

“Nobody thinks about the phone line behind a fire alarm until the day it doesn’t work. MarketSpark already provides these lines for enterprises across the Fortune 100, keeping them connected through carrier sunsets, power outages, and everything in between. FDNY approval means the most demanding fire authority in the country has examined how we do it and said that our solutions meets their standard. For building owners watching copper disappear out from under their compliance obligations, that’s the assurance that matters.”
